Kokedama are also called poor man's bonsai. They’re made of wet akadama soil and peat moss formed to a ball. A plant is set into the ball and afterwards the moss is wrapped around. Aluminum wire or nylon wire fixes the whole bundle, and is ready to hang near a window.
When I started making Kokedama, I mostly used indoor exotic tropical plants or succulents, but after large area fires started affecting our air and climate here in the Grand Valley where we live, we began to think of how indoor plants could help clear the air for humans in our houses, while ash fell outside and the air was filled with smoke. It takes an estimated 12 plants to make enough oxygen for one adult in a room.
There’s a thought!
